New Fire Safety Law, how does it affect you
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
October 2006 saw the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. It passes to the client, a greater level of responsibility for fire safety complience in the workplace.
Commercial sites require a Fire Risk Assessment to comply with Article 9 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
This involves an assessment of the site, inspecting all areas of the building and meeting with staff. The assessor must review the fire safety precautions, fire safety equipment and any documented processes.
THE FIRE RISK ASSESSMENT
The Fire Risk Assessment process will require the assessor to touch base with the Fire
Officer for the building and see any of the following materials (if they exist):-
a. Fire and Safety Training Records
b. Fire Safety log book
c. Roles and Responsibilities, who is in the emergency team?
d. The emergency plan
e. Drawings of the site
f. Any local authorities documents or letter referring to fire safety
g. First aider data
h. Any other materials relating to fire safety you have

The output is a formal Fire Risk Assessment document . It will need to be retained on site for inspection anytime by local fire service personnel.
